Where will my Bowen Therapy session take place?
Your Bowen Therapy session will take place in a comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.
What should I wear?
We ask you to wear a t-shirt and exercise pants.
What parts of my body will be worked on?
A typical full-body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, hands, head, neck, and shoulders.
What will Bowen Therapy feel like?
It will be pleasant and relaxing, but there will be times in your areas of trouble, that it will be a bit sensitive. The practitioner will do rolling motions over muscles and tendons in specific patterns. Also, there will be "waiting periods" where your Bowen Therapist removes herself, and you will have the opportunity to breathe gently, allowing your body to fall into deeper relaxation.
What should I do during the Bowen Therapy session?
Prior to the session, feel free to ask the practitioner any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. During the Bowen Therapy treatment, make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, a blanket, or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask.
How will I feel after the Bowen Therapy session?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches developed from tension or repetitive activity or previous acute pain. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience reduced or eliminated pain, increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days.
What are the benefits of Bowen Therapy?
Bowen Therapy can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Bowen Therapy is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.
Are there any medical conditions that would make Bowen Therapy inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it's important that, before you begin your session, the practitioner asks general health questions, and that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. However; it is almost unheard of for the practitioner to deem Bowen Therapy inadvisable, because of the gentleness of the method.
